Day 7-Layover day in Gmunden

Today was a relaxing day after our long ride yesterday.  We made the 25 minute walk into town early and found that there was an antiques market set up in the town square.  It was interesting browsing through the booths, especially with the chiming of the 24 ceramic bells in the tower above us.  Gmunden is known for ceramic pottery and the town hall has a very unique "glockenspiel" made of ceramic bells that are painted in the same fashion as the pottery.  We also went to the city museum, which was supposed to feature a collection of Brahms artifacts and letters (he spent several summers here), but we never found them.  Instead, we ended up in the "sanitary exhibit" in the museum which is dedicated to the "loo".  So, no Brahms, but we did see Emperor Franz Josef's urinal.

We found that the ferry is running again, so we plan to catch the ferry in Gmunden to begin our day tomorrow.  We are hoping to stop in Ebensee at the modern history museum on our way to Bad Ischl.

Here is today's collection of random photos:

A lambie purse?  I think this would get very dirty, but I thought Lambie might like to see it!

The city is on a very steep hill.  A beautiful view of the ascending roof lines.

Looking back down at the city square from one of the high streets.

We didn't go to McDonald's, but it was funny that it was the poster on the side of the train.

Dinner was really good tonight.  Rick had the pork with mushrooms, broccoli, and potato croquettes...

and I branched out of my normal comfort zone and tried the spinach dumplings with ham and cheese.  It was really delicious!

And, of course, there was dessert.  I selected the ice cream and

Rick had the chocolate mousse.  Very good!  I'm not going to know what to do when I actually have to cook again:)

Heading to bed...

but I'll be sure to not smoke in bed.
